Nagpur: A young and her son were killed as a motorcycle on which they were riding pillion was hit by a speeding car on Nagpur-Bhandara road near Mathni, on Wednesday. The impact was so strong that the woman was thrown off the bridge. Her husband and daughter were seriously injured in the mishap. After hitting the motorcycle from behind, the car crashed into another two-wheeler parked near the parapet wall of the bridge.
The deceased were identified as Bharati Raju Tijare (35) and her son Krishnaram (12), while injured persons are — her husband Raju (40) and daughter Siddheshwari (8), all residents of Chirwha village in Mouda Tehsil of Nagpur district.
According to police, the Tijare family was heading towards its village on a motorcycle. A car also was moving in the same direction. On the bridge near Mathni, the car driver lost control over the wheels and hit Tijare’s two-wheeler. The impact was so powerful that Raju’s motorcycle hit the parapet wall of the bridge and Bharati was thrown off the bridge. She fell on the banks of the river and sustained grievous injuries. Raju, Siddheshwari and Krishnaram also suffered serious injuries in the mishap. After hitting Raju’s motorcycle, the car then hit another two-wheeler parked on the bridge. The five car occupants and the driver fled the spot.
Staff of Mouda police, led by Senior PI Hemantkumar Kharabe, rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to a hospital where Bharati was declared dead by the doctors. Condition of Krishnaram was critical. He breathed his last at the hospital at 9 pm.
Mouda police registered a case under the Sections of Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act against the unidentified driver of the ‘killer’ car.
