STPF jawan, old man hurt in tiger attack

Nagpur: A senior citizen of Palasgaon and a Jawan of Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) were injured in a tiger attack in Palasgaon Forest Range coming under Buffer Zone of Tiger Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), informed Dr Jitendra Ramgaonkar, Chief Conservator of Forest, TATR.

On Tuesday, a tigress and its two cubs had killed a cow Palasgaon village and were later hiding near a cattle shed. Later, a villager spotted the tigress and its cubs near a pond and he informed Forest officials.

However, before the Forest team reached the spot, the tigress attacked Charandas Shankar Bansod (60) from Palasgaon and Sunil Venkatrao Gajalwar (31) from STPF and injured them. They were shifted to Chandrapur for treatment.

The tiger is hiding in bushes near the pond along with the cubs. The Forest Department is trying to push them into the jungle.
