Nagpur: The 96th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, the most prestigious annual event of the Marathi literary world, will be held at Wardha early next year.
Usha Tambe, President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, made the announcement in Nagpur after a meeting of the Mahamandal at Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh. There was a curiosity about the venue for the next Marathi Sahitya Sammelan after the recently concluded 95th meet held at Udgir.
Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh (V SS), which is celebrating its centenary year, expressed the desire and preparedness to host the 96th meet in Vidarbha region. The VSS, which is a constituent of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, had suggested Wardha as the venue for the 96th meet scheduled to be held in January or February 2023. Accordingly, a meeting in this regard was held at VSS in Sitabuldi here on Sunday.
Addressing the media persons after the meeting, Tambe said that the Selection Committee of the Mahamandal had paid a visit to Wardha on Saturday. The committee inspected the open spaces, probable venue for book exhibition, places where residential arrangements for delegates and guests could be made etc. After the visit and discussion, the committee submitted its report to the Mahamandal in the meeting held at VSS in Nagpur on Sunday.
“We have unanimously accepted the report. Accordingly, the 96th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan shall be held at Wardha,” announced Tambe. Ujjwala Mehendale, Secretary of the Mahamandal, Prakash Pagey, Treasurer, Vilas Manekar, General Secretary of VSS, were present on this occasion. Dr Ravindra Shobhane, Working President of VSS, Pradeep Datey, Co-ordinator of Wardha unit of VSS, Dr Gajanan Nare from Akola, Dr Vidya Deodhar, Kapur Wasnik, Prakash Holkar from Pune, Kiran Sagar from Aurangabad attended the meeting.
