Nagpur:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have taken a “wealthy lead” in the battle of NMC ballot. Seven candidates of BJP and two nominees of Congress are giving a wealthy touch to the election as crorepatis. On record, the ‘richest’ candidate in the ring is BJP’s Parinita Fuke fighting from Prabhag 15.

She has shown her movable and immovable assets worth Rs 21 crore. Closely following is another BJP candidate Vijay Raut from Prabhag 38 with assets valued at Rs 14.37 crore. Same party’s Prabhag 15 nominee Rupa Rai has Rs 13 crore assets, Dr Dilip Diwe (Prabhag 37) is with 11.73 crore, Virendra Kukreja (Prabhag 1) Rs 10.36 crore, Navnitsingh Tuli (Prabhag 7) Rs 7 crore and the party’s seventh crorepati is Sandeep Joshi from Prabhag 16 with Rs 3.50 crore assets. The affidavits filed by these seven candidates point out the rich factor.

On the other hand, Congress has fielded two crorepatis. City Congress President and Prabhag 37 candidate Vikas Thakre is in possession of assets worth Rs 5.20 crore. Party’s another nominee from Prabhag 38 has shown his assets valued at Rs 18.75 crore.

Apart from the said crorepati candidates, some other contestants are also giving a touch of different hue. Taking a cue from a ‘chaiwala’ Prime Minister, NCP has also fielded a genuine ‘chaiwala’ in Anil Ahirkar from Prabhag 20. If this ‘chaiwala’ carves out a victory, he will create a history of sorts in NMC.

A “famous” name has turned the NMC ballot battle exciting as well. Jagdish Khare, an ace diver and an expert in retrieving dead bodies of those who ended their lives in Gandhisagar Lake, is in the fray as an independent candidate from Prabhag 17. The issues he raise if wins the fight could be a thing of curiosity.

Congress candidate from Prabhag 13 Vilas Bhalekar is leader of auto union. The agitations launched by him have put a curb on cab services from spreading their network in city.
