Nagpur: Gang of criminals posing as bogus policemen created havoc by tricking and robbing three elderly women in different parts of the city on Friday the November 14. None of the criminals has been arrested. The three aged women were robbed of their gold booty collectively worth Rs 3,32,000.

In the first incident, the victim Sheela Chandrabhan Setiya (60), resident of Plot No. 94, near Mata Mandir, Jaripatka was returning home after a morning walk around 9.45 on Friday. When Sheela reached near Kalgidhar Satsang Mandal on Bank of Maharashtra Road, four unidentified persons approached her and introducing themselves as ‘policemen,’ told her to keep her gold bangles, chain and a ring in paper packet as some criminals were robbing women. Believing the ‘story’ of the bogus policemen, Sheela took out the jewellery. At the same time, the criminals on the pretext of wrapping up the jewellery in the paper, kept the booty with themselves and handed over another piece of paper to Sheela in which only glass bangles were kept. After the trick, the four accused bogus policemen vanished from the scene. However, sensing something amiss, Sheela opened the paper packet only to find the real jewellery worth Rs 1,60,000 missing.

Jaripatka API Jadhav, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sheela, booked the four bogus policemen under Sections 170, 420, 34 of the IPC and searching for them.

The second incident occurred in Ambajhari area. The victim Mamata Ashok Tolani (56), resident of 158C, Vishveshwar Apartment, Ambajhari Hill Top, was going to Shahu Kirana Stores in Verma Layout at about 1 pm on Friday. Midway, two unidentified criminals in the age group of 30-35 years on a black-coloured motorcycle accosted Mamata and introducing themselves as ‘policemen’ scared her that a police checking is going on in this area and she should keep her gold jewellery in the bag. Mamata immediately took out her four gold bangles worth Rs 80,000 and wrapped them in paper and handed them over to the ‘bogus policemen.’ Diverting Mamata’s attention, the two criminals pocketed the jewellery and put fake bangles in her bag. The trick came to notice of Mamata when she opened the wrapping after some time.

Ambajhari PSI Borge, reacting to the complaint of Mamata, booked the two fake policemen under Sections 170, 420, 34 of the IPC and searching for them.

In the third incident, two goons posing as ‘policemen,’ adopting the same modus operandi, went a step ahead. The two bogus policemen trapped the victim Ratna Gangadhar Batulwar (74), resident of Plot No. 41, Navnirman Society, when she was returning home walking after completing work in Bank of India at 1.30 pm on Friday. Riding on a black-coloured motorcycle, the two criminals posing as ‘policemen’ approached Ratna and told her that their DySP was on round as Puja Verma’s gold jewellery has been stolen. The two accused further told Ratna to remove her two gold bangles, a chain and a ring and keep them in her purse. Adopting the same trick, the two fake cops robbed Ratna of her gold booty worth Rs 92,000.

Pratap Nagar API Munde has booked the two accused bogus policemen under Sections 170, 420, 34 of the IPC and hunting for them.
