62 kg ganja worth Rs 6.24 lakh seized from AP car, 3 drug peddlers arrested

Nagpur: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Crime Branch seized 62.4 kg ganja from a car coming to city from Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. Three persons travelling in the car have been arrested in this connection. The seized heady stuff is worth Rs 6.24 lakh.

Acting on secret inputs that a Ford car from Andhra Pradesh is coming to city with a consignment of ganja, a team of Anti-Narcotics Cell laid a trap in Sonegaon area. As the car (AP-31/AQ-0455) reached near Chichbhuvan bridge on Shivangaon turning, the waiting cops intercepted the car and stopped it. On being confronted, the three accused drug peddlers could not answer the questions of the cops and fumbled. Subsequently, the cops frisked the three men and also checked the car. A consignment of 62.4 kg ganja was hidden under the back seat of the car. The ganja was worth Rs 6.24 lakh.

The accused drug-peddlers arrested are Ashok Kumar Yakaiyya Alakunta (28), Upendra Ramalu Alakunta (35), and Raja Attamallu Wangla (48) all from Telengana.

An offence under Sections 8(C), 20 of Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act was registered against the three accused.
