6.17 crore MT fly ash to be used in Samruddhi Mahamarg extension projects

Nagpur: In a major initiative aimed at solving the pressing issue of industrial waste disposal, the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MahaGenco) has signed an agreement with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to supply 6.17 crore metric tonnes of fly ash for the construction of proposed Samruddhi Mahamarg extension corridors.

The agreement facilitates the massive utilization of thermal power plant byproduct across three newly planned road corridors originating from Nagpur: the Chandrapur corridor requiring 2.79 crore metric tonnes, the Gondia corridor requiring 2.09 crore metric tonnes, and the Bhandara-Gadchiroli corridor requiring 1.14 crore metric tonnes.

To support these large-scale infrastructure projects, raw material sourcing will be managed based on location. The fly ash for project segments near the Nagpur end will be drawn from the Koradi and Khaparkheda Thermal Power Plants, while the requirements for the further extension reaches will be supplied directly by the Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station.

Under the operational framework, individual construction contractors who secure tenders for the respective road stretches will execute tripartite agreements directly with the supplying thermal power plants and the MSRDC. This arrangement is expected to significantly ease the heavy environmental and storage disposal burden currently faced by thermal power stations in the region.

According to an official release issued by MahaGenco, the agreement terms remain valid until March 31, 2032, or until the physical completion of the projects, whichever occurs earlier. This massive diversion of industrial waste aligns with the central and state government mandate advocating 100% ash utilization in infrastructure development.
