Nagpur: A five-year-old boy, Vidhwanshu Vishwakarma, was found with serious burn injuries inside the charred driver’s cabin of his father Bittu’s truck in Koradi area on Tuesday. Surprisingly, no one had spotted the fire and the boy with burns lay inside the cabin for almost six hours before being spotted. Vidhwanshu was declared dead at Mayo Hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The deceased was son of Bittu Lalan Vishwakarma (32), a resident of Plot No 10, Dhepe Layout, Ward No 03, Bajrang Nagar, Lonara in Koradi area. Bittu Vishwakarma told police that his son went inside his truck’s cabin and ignited a matchstick resulting in the fire around 6 pm on Tuesday. With serious burns, Vidhvanshu was rushed to Mayo Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the small hours of Wednesday.

Vidhwanshu, second among three sons of Bittu, was playing in front of his house, where his father’s truck was parked. It’s still uncertain how Vidhawanshu sneaked into the cabin, which got locked from inside.

Police said the driver of the truck had left for his native place after parking the truck in front of Bittu’s house on Monday. Police feel Vidhwanshu may have started playing with a match box inside the cabin, which started the fire. As the vehicle was parked towards the farm, the flames and smoke emanating from the cabin did not attract any attention. Cops said the boy may not have been able to open the cabin door from inside.

Koradi Police registered an accidental death case and initiated an investigation.
