Nagpur: A 42-year-old man who sustained severe burn injuries after hot water allegedly spilled on him at his residence in Nagpur’s Sonegaon police station limits has died during treatment after battling for life for nearly two days.
The deceased has been identified as Divakar Ramji Sahu (42), a resident of Manish Layout.
According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of August 9 near the Hanuman Temple in Manish Layout. Divakar was reportedly asleep at home while his daughter had placed water on a gas stove to heat.
Police said that as Divakar woke up, the vessel containing the hot water allegedly overturned, causing the boiling water to spill over him. He suffered severe burns, triggering panic among family members.
His relatives immediately rushed him to AIIMS Nagpur for emergency treatment. Due to the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced care.
After initial treatment there, doctors further referred him to Shalinitai Meghe Hospital, where he remained under medical supervision. Despite continuous treatment, his condition remained critical, and he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Following the incident, Sonegaon Police initiated the necessary legal procedures and began an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident was accidental and resulted from burns caused by hot water. Police are continuing their investigation while completing further legal formalities.
