
Nagpur: Under Operation Thunder, a special drive conceptualised by Police Commissioner Ravindrakumar Singal, the Crime Branch Anti-Narcotics Squad seized over 41 kg of ganja from an Eicher truck in the Yashodhara Nagar police station limits.
The seizure was made at Vanjara Layout in the Small Factory Area, in front of Konkan Agro Marine Industries. Police arrested two accused, Mohammad Shamshad Imtiyaz Ahmed (40), a resident of Sangharsh Nagar, and Shah Rukh Khan Iqbal Khan (26), a resident of Kundanlal Gupta Nagar, Itabhatti.
During a thorough search of the truck, police found 41.846 kg of ganja concealed in a specially fabricated compartment behind the cabin. Along with the contraband, three mobile phones and the truck were seized, taking the total value of the recovered material to Rs 30,55,850.
Police are searching for absconding accused Sonu Khan of Itabhatti Chowk and two of his associates from village Redakus in Sambalpur district of Odisha. The action was carried out under the guidance of CP Singal, Joint CP Naveenchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP Rahul Makanikar and ACP Narendra Hivre, and executed by PI Gajanan Gulhane, PI Rahul Shire, API Shivaji Nannaware and PSI Nagesh Punnawad, among others.
Externed man arrested while roaming in Lalganj area
Shantinagar police arrested an externed man during routine patrolling after he was found roaming in a restricted area in Lalganj.
Police received information that a tadeepar (externed) accused was present near a bidi factory behind the Pangepura water tank. When police reached the spot, the accused attempted to flee but was chased and apprehended.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rakesh Narayan Bhure (21), a resident of Lalganj, Satranjipura. He had been externed from the city for one year by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 3. Further legal action is underway.
Man dies after bike skids on flyover in Ambazari area
A 40-year-old man died after his motorcycle skidded on a flyover in the Ambazari police station area late on January 25.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kiran Borkar (40), a resident of Wadi area near Drugdhamna Buddha Vihar. The accident occurred on the flyover while he was travelling from Campus Chowk towards Bhole Petrol Pump.
Borkar sustained serious injuries and was initially admitted to Sengupta Hospital. He was later shifted to the Medical Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Ambazari police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigation.
