3 suspected ISIS members arrested at Nagpur airport; sent to CIT Hyderabad

Nagpur: As many as three youths, allegedly the members of Islamic State of Iran and Syria (ISIS), a dreaded terror outfit, were arrested from Nagpur international airport here. The youths were later taken to Hyderabad where they would be reportedly interrogated for extracting key information regarding their operation. Nagpur Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has worked upon the inputs received from the intelligence and laid a siege at the airport. The arrested youths were identified as Abdul Waseem, Umar Hassan Farukhi and Maaz Hasan Farukh, all in their twenties. All the three have been handed over the Counter Intelligence Team in Hyderabad. Sources from Maharashtra ATS told Nagpur Today that before landing to Nagpur, these people were also intercepted in Kolkata, from where they managed to slip.

It may be mentioned that high alert has been sounded in the city, following the long weekend owing to Christmas and ensuing New Year Eve. The police commissioner has taken a review meeting a day before, to get the latest update on the security situation in the city.

Insiders reported that Nagpur has been reeling under constant threat following the recent hanging of 1993 Mumbai blast convict Yakub Memon, as the underworld has warned of dire consequences then. Sensing the threat, Nagpur police has beefed up additional security in the city and outskirts, particularly the sensitive areas of the city.

Sources could not divulge details about the modus operandi of the so called members and further information can be expected from the interrogation at Hyderabad.
