3 minor children rescued from drunk, abusive parents in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a shocking case of parental neglect and cruelty, three minor children, two girls aged 11 and 7, and a one-year-old boy, were rescued from their alcoholic and abusive parents by the District Child Protection Cell, Nagpur, after a distress call was received on Childline 1098 in the early hours of Monday.

Responding swiftly around 2 am, officials from the Child Protection Team, accompanied by Kamptee Police, rushed to the reported location. What they found was horrifying, the children were living in filthy, unsafe, and neglected conditions, exposed to constant abuse and deprivation. The rescue team immediately shifted all three minors to a safe shelter home for protection and care.

A senior Child Protection Officer described the scene as “deeply distressing.” “The children were in a severely vulnerable condition. This isn’t the first complaint against the family, the parents had been warned and counselled earlier. But despite repeated chances, they continued to abuse and neglect their children. We have now initiated strict legal action,” the officer said.

The District Child Protection Unit has registered a case against the parents under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Nagpur, has ordered that the rescued children remain under the custody of a recognized Children’s Home until further notice.

Officials reiterated that Childline 1098 is a free, 24-hour emergency helpline for children in distress, emphasizing that caller identities remain confidential.

“Every timely call can save a life,” said the officer. “No child should suffer in silence, if you see or suspect abuse, report it immediately.”

The case serves as a grim reminder of the rising instances of child neglect linked to substance abuse, and a call for society to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting its most vulnerable citizens. The investigation is underway, and authorities have assured that the children’s safety and rehabilitation will remain the top priority.
