Nagpur: Even as the city was yet to settle down over the murders of 5 members of Pawankar and Palatkar family, yet another murder of 23 year old woman has put the cops on the toes and unleashed a feeling of insecurity among the citizens.

Shabnam Khan, 23, was found murdered with a deep strangulation mark around neck and a stab injury on the left side of the stomach at a desolate narrow lane at Jagdish Nagar under Gittikhadan police station on Tuesday.

Tousif Shaikh, alias Sonu, who is learnt to be having an affair with Shabnam, is now under scanner for his alleged role in the murder. A team of Gittikhadan police has left for Gondia after his location was traced in the district. Sonu is likely to have committed the murder over doubts on Shabnam’s fidelity, said a police source from Gittikhadan police station where the offence has been registered.

Shabnam was eldest of four sisters who stayed at Dashrath Nagar, around 3 kms from the place where the body was found. She used to work at a dental care clinic on Gorewada road. Shabnam came from a poor family with father Shehzad pulling rickshaw and mother working as a labourer. None of the sisters was married.

Police said Shabnam was at the market along with her younger sister when she received a call from Sonu. Her younger sister told police that she had assured Sonu to meet after preparing dinner for the family. She had left for clinic at 7.30 pm on Monday as usual. She was expected to return by 11.30 pm.

Police said Shabnam’s family kept on trying to call her in the night when she did not return. The cellphone, which is still missing, had been switched off. The family, for reasons best known to them, did not approach police in the night. On Tuesday, the police were alerted about her body being found.
