Nagpur: In the increasing incidents of the kind, two ruffians posed themselves as “policemen” and relieved an aged woman of her gold ornaments worth Rs 90,000 in posh and busy Telecom Nagar area of Pratapnagar Police Station.

The victim, Kavita Prabhakar Bari (59), resident of Plot No. 99, Telecom Nagar, was returning home walking around 11 am on Tuesday. As Kavita was nearing her home, two unidentified motorcycle borne goons, in the age group of 35-40 years, accosted her and told her that they were “policemen.”

The two bogus cops scared Kavita by telling her that incidents of robbing and looting are taking place in the area and she should keep her gold ornaments in a white paper for safety. The fake policemen offered to help unsuspecting Kavita in keeping the booty wrapped in paper and pretended to be doing so.

Meanwhile, the cops diverted the attention of Kavita and pocketed the gold ornaments instead of wrapping them in a paper. At the same time, the conmen tricked Kavita by keeping the fake ornament-like stuff in the paper and returned the same to her. Thereafter, the bogus cops vanished from the scene as quickly as possible. When Kavita returned home and opened the wrapped paper, she was shocked to find her jewellery missing.

Pratapnagar PSI Gurnule, acting on the complaint of Kavita, registered a case against the two bogus policemen under Sections 170, 420, 34 of IPC and mounted a hunt to nab them.
