17-year-old girl threatened for marriage, hangs self

Gittikhadan police has booked a youth named Saddam, who is in his twenties, for allegedly abetment of a 17-year-old girl’s suicide who had hanged herself on Friday. Police informed that the deceased, Sonali Chavhan, a resident of Ganga Nagar, had taken the extreme step after Saddam had threatened her of dire consequence if she didn’t marry him.
Police said that Saddam had a one-sided love affair with Sonali and would often harass her. On Thursday evening, Saddam had threatened to kill her mother and brother is she didn’t marry him. Cops informed that he had even warned Sonali to take some decision in two days.
On Friday, Sonali hanged herself. However, within few minutes, her mother found her hanging and brought her down. Sonali, who was still breathing, was rushed to nearby private hospital but was declared dead around midnight. The hospital authorities alerted Gittikhadan police.
On the complaint filed by Sonali’s mother Gyaneshwari, police has booked Saddam for abetment of her suicide.
