The admissions to engineering stream this year saw a very low turnout in Nagpur Division. Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) conducted three rounds for over 26000 seats in 58 engineering colleges in the division. However, after the 3 CAP rounds, only 11992 seats were taken up and a whopping 14088 seats remained vacant.
This year, during the admission process, 18185 application kits were sold. About 17242 candidates had registered online. In the first round, 7000 candidates had confirmed their seats, followed by second round which could gather just above 2000 seats. The counseling round was also held till July 29, which was further extended for 4 more days. At the end of all rounds, the engineering stream could garner only 11992 seats against 26000 seats. Last year, 10000 seats had remained vacant.
According to experts, this year, it appears, the students are more inclined to basic science courses.
