1 killed, 35 passengers hurt as speeding truck rams Nashik-Nagpur Shivshahi bus

Nagpur: At least one person was killed and 35 passengers were injured 15 of them seriously as the Shivshahi bus they were travelling in collided with a trailer truck on Akola-Nagpur National Highway on Monday morning.

According to information, the mishap took place around 8 am near Kurum Navsal village on the National Highway. The Shivshahi bus (MH-29/BE 1511) of MSRTC was coming to Nagpur from Akola. The bus originated from Nashik. As the bus neared Kurum Navsal village, a trailer truck (GJ 03/BW 5925), laden with steel rolls and coming from opposite direction, collided with the ST bus with great impact. The hit was forceful that the front portion of the bus was reduced to steel mangles. The crash left at least 35 bus passengers including driver injured some of them seriously. Many passengers were trapped in the bus and were rescued by nearby people and police who reached the spot immediately. The injured were rushed to a Amravati hospital in ambulances.

According to police, the truck, going towards Akola from Amravati, was being driven recklessly. Near Navsal turning, the driver of the truck, in a bid to overtake another vehicle, lost control and rammed the ST’s Shivshahi bus with full speed.
