Nagpur: One person was killed and 11 others were injured, some of them seriously, when the Tavera car they were travelling in was rammed by a speeding truck near New Katol Check Post in Gittikhadan area here on Thursday (March 24) morning. The driver of the killer truck has been arrested.
The deceased has been identified as Surendra Mahadevrao Ninave (45), resident of Shantinagar. The injured are Abhijit Mohan Kongre (19), Mohan Kongre (50), Usha Kongre (43), Rupesh Kongre (15), all residents of Hiwri Nagar, Amita Krishnarao Gurav (40), Ritesh Arun Gurav (22), Sumit Gurav (44), Aniket Gurav (21), all residents of Shantinagar, Asha Belekar (58), Nikhil Belekar (6), both residents of Hiwri Nagar and Rahul Kaole (20) of Wardhaman Nagar.
The Tavera car (MH-22/V 9191) was being driven by Abhijit Kongre and all the persons were going for pilgrimage. When the car reached near New Katol Check Post in Gittikhadan area around 7.15 am, the speeding truck (WB-29/A 1524), driven by Ravindralal Arjunchand Pramanik (38) of Pachkuri in West Bengal, rammed the vehicle with forceful impact.
The impact left Surendra Ninane dead on the spot while the other 11 occupants of the car injured, some of them seriously. Soon a team of policemen from Gittikhadan Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Surendra Ninave’s body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem. The injured were admitted to different hospitals.
API Darekar has registered a case under Sections 279, 337, 338, 304(A) of IPC against the truck driver and placed him under arrest.
