Nagpur: Five employees including Assistant Commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation have been suspended in fraud of vehicles spare parts. The orders were issued by Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal. Those suspended are Asinagar Zone’s Assistant Commissioner Vijay Humane, Workshop Department’s Mechnical Engineer Rajesh Gurmuke, Mechanical Engineer Ujjwal Lannjewar, Vehicle Inspector Vikram Mankar, and Junior Vehicle Inspector Manish Kayarkar. In last meeting of NMC the issue had appeared and sensing the seriousness of it Mayor Nand Jichkar gave order to suspend the officials. After the investigations Municipal Commissioner issued the suspension order of the officials on Friday.
Due to the alertness of Senior Corporator Sandip Sahare, the corruption of corers of rupees had come to light. Sahare had got the information about buying the spare parts of the vehicles at more than double rate by Workshop Department. Soon after this Sandip Sahare collected information of purchases made by workshop department through Right to Information (RTI) for financial year 2015-16 and 2016-17. The information about the purchases made of material were compared with the market rates which proved shocking as the purchases were made at a more than double the rates. During this period nearly the purchases of Rs 2 crore were made. For this even the tenders were floated. The materials were bought from suppliers.
The corruption in workshop department was raised in the last meeting held on December 8. After the issue was raised in the meeting not only the opposition but also the ruling party members demanded the Mayor to suspend the guilty.
