Nagpur: In a bizarre incident, an evil-minded youth raped a girl to whom he was engaged by threatening to break the proposed marriage and his elder brother demanded dowry of valuables and cash of Rs 5 lakh from the girl’s parents as pre-condition of marriage. The wicked accused youth and his brother have been booked.
According to police, the 28-year old girl, resident of Kotwali area, was engaged to the accused Yogesh Damodhar Devhare (31), resident of Sairam Nivas, Saoner, on 15.2.2015. However, the day the girl and accused Yogesh got engaged, their marriage looked a distant dream and wreaked. The accused Yogesh started threatening the girl of breaking the proposed marriage. With this threat and nefarious designs in his mind, Yogesh raped the girl frequently over a period from February to April 12 this year.
The girl’s ordeal did not end with the rape. An elder brother of accused Yogesh, identified as Pradeep Damodhar Devhare, shamelessly demanded dowry of valuables and a cash of Rs 5 lakh from the girl’s parents as pre-condition of the marriage. Fed up with the devilish actions of accused Yogesh and his brother Pradeep, the girl finally registered a case with Kotwali Police Station against them.
Senior PSI Harde, acting on the complaint, booked both the accused Yogesh Devhare and Pradeep Devhare under Sections 376(2)(N) of IPC read with Section 4 of Anti-Dowry Act and probing the matter from all angles.
