
Nagpur: Former junior national champion boxer Anant Deshmukh of Nagpur created history by winning a medal in the Youth Asian Games that concluded in Bahrain, United Arab Emirates.
Performing impressively in the 66kg weight category, Anant won a bronze medal with remarkable performance. With this victory, Kamptee boy Anant has made India and Maharashtra proud. Anant has become the first boxer from Nagpur to achieve this honour. This is Anant’s third international competition this year, representing India. He trains under the guidance of renowned coach Ganesh Purohit at Nagpur’s Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur.
Now, Anant is working hard on his training at the Delhi Sports School in Delhi. Anant defeated a boxer from Tajikistan 5-0 in the pre-quarterfinals and defeated a boxer from Thailand in the third round in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, he was up against a Kazakhstan boxer and narrowly missed the victory to settle for the bronze medal. All members of the Nagpur District Boxing Association and Nagpur City Boxing Association, as well as sports enthusiasts, congratulated Anant and wished him well for his future endeavours.
