Nagpur: Imambada police have registered a rape case against a 20-year-old youth for allegedly establishing physical relations with a 22-year-old woman on the promise of marriage and subsequently refusing to marry her. The accused, identified as Om Gaikwad, has been arrested following a complaint lodged by the woman.
According to the complaint, Gaikwad had assured the woman that he would marry her. Trusting his promise, she allegedly agreed to accompany him to a friend’s house, where he established physical relations with her. The accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The matter came to light when the woman later asked Gaikwad about their marriage. He allegedly refused to marry her, citing a lack of consent from his family.
Feeling cheated by the alleged refusal after the promise of marriage, the woman approached Imambada police and lodged a complaint.
Acting on her complaint, police registered a case against Gaikwad under the relevant provisions of law relating to rape and arrested him. He was subsequently sent to jail, while further investigation into the case is underway.
