Nagpur: A day after CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s programme on Nagpur University premises was indefinitely postponed by Vice-Chancellor S.M. Kane, a college of the same university came forward to organise his speech.

“Yechury will deliver a lecture on ‘Democracy’s decline: Challenges and Solutions’ on Saturday in Dr. Ambedkar college,” said the college professor A.D. Fulzele in Nagpur.

Some politicians and thinkers from Nagpur had accused the V-C of postponing Mr. Yechury’s programme allegedly due to pressure from the ABVP. But the charge was denied by both the V-C and the ABVP.

The V-C told reporters on Friday that the university had nothing to do with Mr. Yechury’s Saturday programme in Dr. Ambedkar College and claimed that he had postponed the earlier event as no proper permission was sought by the organisers.

Cong. happy

Senior Congress leader Nitin Raut, who led a delegation to meet the V-C on Thursday, expressed happiness that Yechury would speak in Nagpur on March 18.

“We insisted with Yechury that he has to speak in Nagpur, and he has relented although the programme is at a different location now,” said Raut
