XI Admission : Science, Commerce turn hot favourites in Nagpur

Nagpur: The second round of merit list for the admission to class 11th has been put out recently, in which most of the selected students have given their first preferences for Science and Commerce. As many as 22,000 students have taken admission in various colleges in the first two rounds. Interestingly, science topped the list of preference as 12,479 students have taken admission in science stream whereas 479 admissions have been finalised for commerce stream in second round.There has been a remarkable dip in the admissions to arts and MCVC branches.

Third round picks up
The third round has been started on Wednesday, July 26. The students will have two days to select for the options. Those who had discarded admissions in first and second rounds will now have to choose the third option, leaving aside the first two options. The final list will be sent to the college on July 29.

Many students backed off
The first round under central admission process (CAP) was conducted on July 14, followed by second round on July 20. After the first CAP round, as many as 16,000 students took admissions whereas 24,000 students backed off as they did not get their first choice. As per the decision of the admission committee these students were not allowed to take part in the second round.

However those who did not apply for admission in the CAP round have been facilitated to submit admission forms in colleges with their options filled. Following this development, the students submitted applications with their opted subjects on July 18. On July 20, the list of 26,000 students who got themselves registered in colleges was sent, of which 6,000 students confirmed their admissions.

17,000 seats likely to remain vacant
For both the rounds, a total 22,611 students getting their first option have taken admission. Apart from the total of 12,479 students taking admission to science stream, the combined tally of students opting for commerce stream in both the rounds is 10,880. The arts stream fetched 2,160 students whereas 1,092 students got admission in MCVC.

There are a total of 23,900 seats for science and other courses, 15,980 seats for commerce, 9,500 for arts and 3,820 seats for MCVC. This puts the total number of seats to 52,840. A total of 35,516 applications have been received so far, which indicates that 17,000 seats may remain vacant.
