Nagpur: Women’s leadership has taken centre stage in Nagpur’s civic power structure with the election of Neeta Thakre as Mayor and Leela Hathibed as Deputy Mayor, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the city’s political and administrative journey. The emergence of this dual women-led leadership has raised hopes that Nagpur’s development agenda will gain fresh momentum and a more people-centric approach.
After assuming office, Mayor Neeta Thakre made it clear that holistic development of the city would remain her top priority. She emphasised accelerating the Swachh Nagpur campaign, strengthening civic infrastructure, ensuring efficient delivery of public services and rolling out focused initiatives for women’s empowerment. Thakre underlined her vision of transforming Nagpur into a smart, safe and inclusive city, where governance responds effectively to citizens’ needs.
Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed echoed similar sentiments, assuring that the functioning of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation would be transparent, responsive and result-oriented. She stressed that development decisions would be taken in consultation with all stakeholders, including political parties, civic officials and citizens. Hathibed also asserted that the administration would act swiftly and sensitively in addressing public grievances, reinforcing accountability at every level.
The pairing of two women at the helm of the civic body has generated optimism across Nagpur.
