Nagpur: Saluting the spirit of women in Nagpur police, the city police commissioner SP Yadav called for a unique women’s day celebration at all police stations in the city on Tuesday. Observing women’s day in its own inimitable style, the women posted at various police stations in Nagpur were honored to lead the staff for the day. And the lady cops did it with high degree of professionalism and finesse to their responsibility.
The women police personnel post at every police station handled the tasks including duty allocation, flag hoisting, duty officer, detection, investigations which is otherwise jointly handled by men and women police personnel.
The In-charge Police Inspectors of every police station handed over the charge of the police stations to the Lady Police Inspectors. A small programme was also organized at most police stations to honour and recognize the work that women perform each day. The initiative that was undertaken has a bigger purpose behind it. Every day there are many problems that many women face, only a women police official can understand another women’s problems and they display sympathy towards them and solve their problems.
In many police stations falling under Rural Police where senior lady police inspectors were not present, even Women Police Constables were given charge of the police station.
Women are grossly underrepresented in several fields in India and the scenario is the same even in the police force in India. Women in law enforcement agencies especially the police force have slowly become a decent number in Maharashra. With more women police personnel being inducted into the police system, many law enforcement duties which deals with women have become easier.
Within the police stations too, women, who initially focused on issues related only to women and children, are now taking on investigation of serious offences too. Many have investigated very sensitive cases, withstood the gruelling cross examination of defence advocates, and have secured convictions too.
However, as police personnel, women too face many problems, yet they not only perform their role as able police officials and excel too. They perform multiple roles of daughter, sister, mother, police official, counselor, wife, etc and perform it well too. Male counterparts of women police officials salute them for their hard work.
