Nagpur: A woman stoned her husband, who was allegedly a liquor addict, to death while he was sleeping in Awandhi in New Kamptee police station area in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, said police. She then spent the night beside the body waiting for day-break to approach the police.
The New Kamptee police were taken aback when the woman, identified as Aruna Patil (40), walked in to surrender on Sunday morning claiming she had murdered her husband Anand and spent the night beside his body.
The deceased was identified as Anand Bhaduji Patil, a resident of Awandhi village. The murder came to fore when his wife Aruna Patil (40) surrendered before the police.
According to police, the motive behind the crime was a continued dispute over Anand’s persistent demand for money to fuel his alcohol addiction. On Saturday night, Anand once again demanded money from his wife for drinking. When Aruna refused, they had an argument. After that, Anand fell asleep. Seething with anger, Aruna took matters into her own hands and bludgeoned Anand to death with a boulder while he was asleep. Strangely, she stayed with the dead body throughout the night. On Sunday early morning, she surrendered before the police. Police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Aruna Patil was arrested by police on charges of murder. The couple’s son Mayur was away in Pune at the time of the incident.
e-Rickshaw driver murdered
A 75-year-old e-Rickshaw driver, Sheikh Akil Sheikh Umar, succumbed to injuries sustained in a knife attack in the Baba Budhaji Nagar area under Panchpaoli police station limits. The assailant, identified as 19-year-old Tanjim Iqbal Qureshi from Khadan area, stabbed Akil on the night of December 25.
Initially facing charges of attempted murder, Tanjim was arrested and sent to judicial custody. However, Akil passed away during treatment at Mayo Hospital. As a result, the police elevated the charges against Tanjim to murder. The police have now registered a murder case against Tanjim Iqbal Qureshi.
