“Withhold salary of staff conniving at tax collection”: Shingare

St Chairman Tax NEWS PHTOS 28 July 2015Nagpur: “All staffers and zone-wise inspectors of tax department of NMC, who are engaged in tax collection duty, must show utmost sincerity in collection of property tax and wealth tax, etc, in the interest of NMC. Those who show laziness or dereliction to their duty assigned shall be taken to task and their salary would be withheld as a punishment,” cautioned NMC Standing Committee Chairman Ramesh Shingare in the review-meeting of tax assessment, held at NMC Zone No. 4, Hanuman Nagar, here in the city on July 28, 2015. The meeting also covered the Dhantoli zone review of tax collection.

Prominently present on the occasion included Tax Assessment Committee chairman Girish Deshmukh, Hanuman Nagar zone chairman Sarika Nandurkar, assistant commissioner (Tax) Ashok Patil, zonal assistant commissioner Rajesh Bhivagade, Subhash Jaideo, Praful Farkase, Gautam Patil, Shikant Vaidya and zonal tax inspectors, assessors and staffers.

Shingare further asked the tax collectors to ensure the quantity of wealth/ property possessed by owners, demand-notes served on them, tax collected from them by July and progress report on the issue. He directed the staffers to issue warrants and seize the property of defaulters in tax, and this process must be carried out every day. He also directed them not to hesitate to take strict action against the tax-defaulters/ owners/ handlers of all government buildings, semi-government establishments, plots, sabhagruh, hotels and builders, etc, and collect the outstanding balance of tax. He instructed them work on Saturdays and Sundays, use loud-speakers for announcement and collect taxes for the sake of survival of NMC.

Speaking on the occasion, Girish Gandhi said that much tax balance is there against several plot-owners, such defaulters must be dealt toughly. According to him, if the works of the staffers are unable to execute duty satisfactorily or there is shortage of staff, more staff be supplied in zones to gear up working. He informed, another review meeting would be held in 15 days hence forth to assess the success in the steps being taken. He also directed the staffers to visit each house and serve notice/ demand for tax.
Shingare was apprised of the tax collected by mid July and outstanding tax against citizens under the zone, informed a press note issued by PRO, NMC.
