With HC hammering in mind, top NMC boss tries to push anti-encroachment drive ahead

In view of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and subsequent hammering by High Court in mind, the Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane tried to push anti-encroachment drive to its logical end. Presiding a review meeting, the top NMC boss ordered the concerned authorities to survey and prepare a list of encroachments on footpaths and roads that put hurdles in smooth traffic flow. Similarly, Wardhane directed to survey marriage halls and lawns and see whether the establishments have spared places for parking in accordance with the sanctioned maps. He asked the officials to serve notices to violators. The Municipal Commissioner further said that all the Assistant Commissioners have been appointed as Designated Officers according to Section 56 of Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act. Hence any deliberate negligence on the part of concerned authorities will attract stern action, warned Wardhane.

A high-level meeting of the committee formed under chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner was held on August 1 to review increasing encroachments on Bhandara Road to Pardi Road and to control the monstrous menace in entire Nagpur. Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane presided over the meeting. The meeting was held under the shadow of strongly-worded High Court directives on the PIL which has highlighted rampant encroachment across the city.

The meeting was attended Sub-Divisional Officer of Nagpur Division Rahul Rekhawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bharat Tangde, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pramod Bhusari, NIT’s General Manager Milind Kumar Salve, NMC’s Assistant Director (Town Planning) Satish Renge, Encroachment Control Officer and Executive Engineer Dilip Jamgade, all Assistant Commissioners of NMC’s Zones namely G M Rathod, Rajesh Karade, Vijay Humne, Subhash Jaideo, Mahesh Morone, Raju Bhivgade, Ashok Patil, Harish Raut, Prakash Varade, Sub-Divisional Engineer of Lakadganj Zone M G Kukreja, National Highway Assistant Commissioner K S Ikhar, NMC’s Counselor V D Kaple, Enforcement Superintendent Arun Pipurde and other officials.

The meeting reviewed action taken by Assistant Commissioners zone-wise as directed by High Court.
