Nagpur: The winter chill intensified across Vidarbha on December 10, with Nagpur emerging as the coldest spot in the region after the minimum temperature plunged to 8°C, the lowest of the season so far. The city also ranked as the third coldest in Maharashtra, trailing Ahmednagar (7.5°C) and Jeur (6°C), according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).
A biting dawn breeze, mist-laced visibility and steady northerly winds forced residents to bundle up in heavy woollens, signalling that winter has now firmly taken over. While several districts in Vidarbha felt the nip, none dipped as sharply as Nagpur.
Gondia recorded 8.4°C, closely followed by Yavatmal at 8.8°C. Wardha logged 9.5°C, with Gadchiroli (10.4°C) and Akola (10.8°C) experiencing slightly milder conditions. Washim stood at 11.2°C, Amravati at 11.9°C, while Buldhana, the warmest in the region, recorded a minimum of 12.8°C. Chandrapur and Brahmapuri both settled at 12°C.
Despite the frosty mornings, afternoon temperatures remained comfortable, rising above 30°C across most districts on Wednesday.
Meteorologists attributed the dip to strong northerly winds, clear skies and enhanced night-time heat loss, typical December patterns in central India. With multiple districts slipping below the 10°C mark and Nagpur leading the temperature fall, Vidarbha appears headed for more crisp, wintry mornings in the days ahead.
