Nagpur: While the famous ‘Nagpuri Summer’ has arrived, speculation of a Bangalore-like water crisis is also circulating on social media and in the minds of Nagpurians.
To seek its answer, Nagpur Today spoke with Kaustav Chatterjee, founder of the Green Vigil Foundation, to shed light on the matter.
Though Nagpur has significant water stock at the moment, water scarcity could occur as we reach peak summer in the coming months. Cement roads, borewells, and tree cuttings have exacerbated this problem, said Chatterjee.
He has also advised citizens to opt for water conservation as the government spends a large sum to ensure water reaches your homes, and we tend to misuse and waste water, he added.
In recent years, Nagpur has experienced fluctuations in its water availability, with the summer months often bringing heightened concerns about shortages. With the city’s population growing and industrial demands increasing, the strain on water resources has become more pronounced. Additionally, erratic weather patterns and insufficient rainfall during the monsoon season have further compounded the issue.
