Nagpur: The silence of State Governments on much hyped GST has created much uproar in the Country. Even though the consensus emerged at the Empowered Committee has been coded in the Bill tabled in Parliament. At a time when the Bill is stalled in the Parliament amid much hue & cry, why the States are keeping mum and why not impress upon the political parties those opposing GST, to extend their support-questioned Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), The CAIT has sent communication to Chief Ministers of different States urging them to mount pressure on political parties to extend support.

B.C.Bhartia, National President of CAIT said that GST bill tabled in Parliament seeking amendment in Constitution of India is the result of long continuous deliberations on GST by Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers which was given a mandate to prepare grounds and supportive environment for implementation of GST in India.

Whatever consensus have emerged in deliberations in Empowered Committee have been coded in the GST Bill by the Union Government. Therefore, primarily much responsibilities lies on State Governments to educate political parties to ensure smooth passage of GST Bill in Parliament-added Bhartia.

CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that most of the leading political parties have their Governments in different States. It is amazing that State Governments of political parties are part of consensus arrived at Empowered Committee whereas the Central leadership is reluctant in extending support in Parliament. The State Governments should convince their respective Central leadership for extending support for GST-opined Khandelwal.

“Let the GST Bill is passed in Parliament paving way for Constitutional amendment which will be followed by separate legislation for Central GST, Integrated GST and State GST which is more importance and concern and all political parties should ensure a simplified and rationalised GST in India.
