WCL employee shot at by two unidentified men in Kandri

Nagpur: Tension ran high in Kanhan Kandri town as an employee of Western Coalfields Limited was shot at by 2 unidentified men on Wednesday morning. The bike-borne men fired bullets on him reportedly by two guns and fled in Mansar direction. The critically injured WCL employee was taken to Mayo Hospital where he is battling for life.

The victim, Jagdish Shalikrao Shrawankar (49), resident of Kamptee, works at diesel pump of WCL’s Kamptee Colliery Opencast Mine. He was going for duty around 6 am on his Bullet motorcycle (MH-40/ AH 8224). As Jagdish reached near Kandri Bus Stop, the two unidentified bike-borne men came from behind and first fired a bullet on him. Later at some distance fired second and third bullet on Jagdish. In the haste, a gun slipped from the hand of one of the accused and fell on the road. The men also lost balance and fell on the road along with their bike. But anyhow they managed to flee in Mansar direction. In the meantime, the profusely bleeding Jagdish turned his motorcycle and reached near Navdurga Mandal in Kandri and requested them to help him. Some persons took him immediately to WCL’s J N Hospital. However, since the hospital lacked necessary treatment facilities, he was taken to Kamptee’s Asha and Roy Hospital. But looking at the serious condition of Jagdish, he was referred to Nagpur’s Mayo Hospital.


On being informed about the firing incident, Kanhan Police Inspector Ravindra Gaekwad and his team reached the spot. SP Shailesh Balkawde, Assistant SP Narsingh Sherkhane, Crime Branch’s Sanjay Purandare and Ishwar Katkade too reached the spot and supervised the investigation. Cops have launched a massive search to nab the two unidentified men.
