VTA files writ petition in High Court over LBT

Nagpur News: Taking fight one step further, Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) through its secretary Tejinder Singh Renu filed writ petition in Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench bearing stamp number 5578/2013, highlighting various discrepancies in procedure adopted by State Government in enforcing Local Body Tax (LBT) in lieu of octroi in Nagpur and praying before High Court to (a) Quash and set aside the notification dated 25.2.2013 issued by the respondent no.1 thereby levying Local Body Tax in lieu of Octroi in the city of Nagpur (b) Quash and set aside the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (Local Body Tax) Rules, 2010 issued by the State Government (c) Stay the effect, operation, implementation and execution of the notification dated 25.2.2013 issued by the State Government thereby levying Local Body Tax in lieu of Octroi in the city of Nagpur, during the pendency of the present petition (d) Stay the effect, operation, implementation and execution of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (Local Body Tax) Rules, 2010 issued by the State Government, in the city of Nagpur during the pendency of the present petition along with other prayer clauses.

Adv Harnish Gadhia shall be representing VTA in the High Court.

A meeting was called thereby at 3 pm in VTA office at Central Avenue, present were J. P. Sharma – President, Tejinder Singh Renu – Secretary, Hemant Trivedi – Joint Secretary, Executive Body Members Amarjeet Singh Chawla, Sanjay K. Agrawal and Rajesh Kanoongo.
