VNIT tripled its fees for various courses in last 10 years: RTI reply

Nagpur: A Right to Information (RTI) reply has revealed that Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) has increased its fees for various courses three times in the last ten years. VNIT has increased the fees a total of 5 times in 10 years.

The information was shared by the VNIT in a reply to a query posed by Adv Sangeeta Thool under Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The institute claims that the fees have been increased on the basis of letters issued by the Central Education Department from time to time. Presently 4882 students are studying in the institute. During the Corona period, many institutions stopped increasing the fees. Some organizations have even waived the fees due to loss of employment during the pandemic. But VNIT has tripled its fees in ten years.

The increase in fees:
B. Tech:
* In 2012-13 session, the B. Tech course fee was 41,850.
* In 2014-15 session, the fee was Rs 50,100.
* In the 2015-16 session, the fee was hiked to Rs 93,700.
* In the session 2017-18, the fee was again increased to Rs 1,48,700.
* In 2020-21 session, the fee increased to Rs 1,49,200.

B Architect:
•In 2012-13 session, the B.Arch course fee was Rs 41,930.
•In the academic session 2014-15, the fee was Rs 51,400.
•In 2015-16 session the fee was Rs 95,000.
•In 2017-18, the fee was again increased to Rs 1,50,000.
•In 2020-21, the fee has been increased to Rs 1,50,500.

M. Tech:
* in 2012-13 session, M.Tech course fee was Rs 43,850.
* In 2014, it became Rs 49,500.
* In 2015, the fee was Rs 93,100.
* In 2020, the fee was increased to Rs 93,600.

MSc:
•In 2012 session, the fee for this course was Rs 15,450.
•In 2014 it became Rs 21,500.
•In 2015, the fee was hiked to Rs 35,100.
•In 2019, the fee was again increased to Rs 36,600
