Video: Tension in MIDC area as a man hurt in stone pelting dies; protest erupts

Tension ran high in Rajiv Nagar area of MIDC as a man injured in stone pelting succumbed on Friday while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Khamla. The deceased Ramesh Meshram was injured in stone pelting on July 29 when he tried to intervene in a quarrel erupted at a Chinese eatery stall.

Relatives of the deceased and other residents of Rajiv Nagar resorted to high-pitched protest and raised slogans against police. Gauging the situation, MIDC police summoned additional forces. DCP Zone 2 Rakesh Ola and ACP Rajratna Bansod too reached the spot. MIDC Police Inspector Sunil Mahadik tried to prevail upon the angry people by assuring an impartial probe into the death of Ramesh Meshram. The assurance brought peace as the protesters dispersed with the body of Ramesh.

On July 29, four youths had food at the Chinese stall in Rajiv Nagar. However, a dispute ensued over the amount of bill. The four accused namely Sonu Shaha, Ritesh Singh and two delinquent boys started thrashing the stall owner named Anna. Ramesh Meshram who was nearby tried to intervene in the brawl.

But the accused Sonu Shaha, Ritesh Singh and the two delinquents allegedly pelted bricks on Ramesh. As a result, he suffered a serious injury and fell unconscious. He was rushed to a private hospital in Khamla but succumbed after five days of treatment.

MIDC cops have registered a case of murder and started investigation.
