Nagpur: The spate of road accidents continues to jolt Nagpur. On Tuesday night, a speeding car overturned at Law College Square in the city. Nearby people rushed to the spot and helped in lifting the car in the right position. A video of the mishap has gone viral.

Recently, the Second Capital of the State witnessed ghastly road accidents. Two brothers, Mohd Aftab Mohd Islam and Mohd Mustafa, died on the spot after coming under the wheels of a truck in Wanadongri, Hingna Road. The incident took place when the brothers, on a bike, were taking a U-Turn. Police said the brothers, natives of Bihar, were not wearing helmets. After losing balance, the brothers fell on the road before coming under the wheels of the truck.
In yet another grisly mishap on Bhandara Road, a recklessly-driven trailer-truck crushed a young woman and her three-month-old daughter to death near Rabdiwala T-point at Mouda. The woman’s husband and mother-in-law were seriously injured in the accident.
The deceased, Pranjal Rajhans Waghmare (22) and her three-month-old daughter, were the residents of Chikna (Dongar Mouda), Tehsil Kuhi. Pranjal was an Anganwadi worker. Pranjal’s husband Rajhans Kisan Waghmare (28) and mother-in-law Anjana Waghmare (45) were rushed to Mouda Rural Hospital.
Rajhans, Pranjal and Anjana Waghmare were carrying the three-month-old girl on a motorcycle (MH-40/CE-2926) to Parmatma Ek Sewak Ashram to seek blessings before her naming ceremony. At Rabdiwala T-point, a speeding trailer-truck (GJ-12/BX-3423) coming from opposite direction hit them killing Pranjal and her three-month-old daughter on the spot and injuring Rajhans and Anjana. Soon after the mishap, vehicular traffic on the National Highway came to a grinding halt.
According to reports, Nagpur roads witnessed as many 958 road accidents that claimed 269 lives, including 220 males and 49 females, while injuring 966 people in 2021. Compared to 2020, the number of road accidents have witnessed a steep increase when the city recorded 773 accidents killing 213 people and injuring 751 others. In 2019, roads witnessed 1,007 accidents which claimed the lives of 250 persons and left 1,042 injured in road-related mishaps, revealed the study conducted by Nagpur city traffic police.
Most of the road accidents in 2021 occurred during no presence of traffic policemen on roads. As per the study, as many 453 road accidents took place either between 1 pm and 5 pm and 9 pm and 7 am, where there were no traffic cops on roads.
