It may come shocking to men in khaki but it appears to be another act of shame. In an apparently digusting move, some of the city cops on duty are seen indulging in extracting ‘cuts’ from the vendors at Shanichara Market – a weekly market place of scrap and recycled articles held every Saturday opposite Empress Mall. A whatsapp video being circulated throughout cell phones shows a police patroling jeep MH-31, AG 9741 making frequent stops at beeline of shops encroaching footpath by the mall’s boundary.

As one checks further with the video, it shows a cop sitting beside driver’s seat in the vehicle is calling every vendor who approaches him with some money. These vendors are seen jumping from their shops to the vehicle’s window and directly handing over their share of amount to the concerned policeman whose face is not clearly visible. Nagpur police website’s URL is also inscribed on the vehicle just above the registration number. Going by the video’s content, there are little chances for it being fabricated as the video is seen progressing in an unedited frame.

The video drew sharp criticism from every cell user sharing it across their whatsapp groups. A comment reads – “This is why we still see encroachments on every footpath and busy streets, despite action from civic authorities.” Another user texted, “Its just like kicking at one moment and patting at another and getting weekly fill for the pockets.” One more user commented, “aaj tak suna hi thha…aaj dekh bhi liya. Sharm karo sharm (we had only heard about it but now its in front of our eyes. Shame on you).
