Nagpur/Amravati: Even products that seem nutritious and expensive can sometimes become a threat to the lives of your little ones. The family of Vikram Dhoke from Amravati learned this the hard way when the Nestle’s Cerelac they bought for their small child turned out to be harmful. People too should be cautious; even the products advertised as the best can have significant quality issues.
The Dhoke family from Amravati fed their breastfeeding child only Cerelac. The child’s nutrition consisted solely of mother’s milk and Cerelac. However, the child’s health deteriorated significantly, suffering from continuous vomiting and diarrhoea, leaving him completely weak. Doctors, upon examination, stated that he had been given toxic food. But the child had only been given Cerelac.
When the parents opened the Cerelac packet they bought from the market, they were horrified to find it filled with live worms. The angry parents lodged a complaint with the relevant Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The department took a sample of the contaminated Cerelac powder from Nestle and sent it for testing.

In this regard, a spokesperson for Nestle India said, “We are in contact with the child’s parents and hope that the child recovers soon. We have sent products from the same batch for testing. The safety of our consumers and the quality of our products is extremely important to us. We have a robust process in place to ensure the quality and safety of all our products, from raw material procurement to final production. We assure you that our products are safe for consumption.” This was the official statement given by Nestle to our representative.
However, the incident may instil a sense of insecurity in the minds of parents of millions of children who depend solely on such food products. Despite the cost of wheat and other crops being between Rs 20-40, products sold at an expensive price of around Rs 660 per kilogram can still be harmful to children. This fact cannot be ignored.
