Valedictory function of 70th Batch of IRS on April 20

Nagpur: Valedictory ceremony of the Induction training of the officers of the 70th batch of IRS ( Indian Revenue Service) who completed their training will be held on 20th April 2018, Friday at 3 PM in NADT, Auditorium, Nagpur. The Chief Guest for the valediction function will be Dr. Hasmukh Adhia, Finance Secretary, Government of India while Sh. B. D. Vishnoi, Member (Administration), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), New Delhi will be the guest of honour. Senior officers from the Income Tax Department and other government organisations are expected to grace the occasion.

The National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur is the apex training academy in India for the Indian Revenue Service officers of Income Tax Department. The IRS officers are recruited through the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). A total of 151 Officers of the 70th Batch of Indian Revenue Service along with 2 officer trainees from the Royal Government of Bhutan have undergone their Induction Training starting since December, 2016.These direct recruit IRS officers have undergone Induction Training of about 16 months during which the Officer Trainees have been provided with specialised inputs in Income Tax Laws, jurisprudence and allied tax laws and general laws like GST, Companies Act, Contract Act, IPC, CPC, CrPC, Indian Evidence Act, Transfer of Property Act, Benami Transactions Act etc. As IRS Officer Trainees, they have received intensive training in accounts & accounting systems practised in India. Further, inputs on Financial Forensics and Cyber Forensics have also been given in order to prepare the trainees for investigation in tax matters as well as financial crimes including tax evasion and money laundering. The trainees are duly sensitised towards public service and the right to information.

In addition to theoretical inputs, the trainees have also been exposed to various practical aspects by way of attachments with various statutory bodies in India including the Parliament, NISM, RBI, Stock Exchange etc. and through programmes like Bharat Darshan Industrial attachment and On-The-Job Training modules. Moreover, in order to expose them to the best international tax practices, International Attachment was also a part of their training programme.

During the training, due emphasis is laid on the physical fitness and overall personality development of the officer trainees by way of activities such as Physical Training, Karate and Yoga. Their abilities in the domain of sports and physical activities are brought to the fore in various activities including INTAX games, which develop camaraderie and sportsmanship amongst Officer Trainees.

Moreover, NADT has entered into an MoU with the prestigious National law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU) to impart necessary training in General laws and allied laws to the IRS probationers. The NLSIU has also imparted necessary training on the Law of Ethics and Governance to the IRS probationers. The NLSIU has conferred an award of ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Business Laws’ to these IRS Officer Trainees.

After Valediction, these officers will be posted as Assistant Commissioners of Income-tax in various field offices across the country.
