Valedictory ceremony of middle-level CDRS & Staff Officers Law Course at IML, Kamptee

The Middle-Level Commanders and Staff Officers Law Course was formally inaugurated at Institute of Military Law (IML), Kamptee by Judge at Nagpur High Court Justice Z A Haq on July 14, 2014 and concluded on August 9, 2014. The course was attended by 34 officers of the rank of Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel of Indian Army from various Headquarters located across the country.
These officers handle the discipline and vigilance cases of the Army as staff officers and play a key role in dispensation of Military Justice amongst rank and file.

Major General T Parshad was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function organized by the Institute of Military Law on August 9, 2014. The Institute is Commanded by Brigadier D K Ahluwalia and managed under his stewardship by a team of dedicated and competent officers belonging to Judge Advocate General Department.

The Head of Department Judge Advocate General Major General T Parshad is the Chief Legal Advisor of the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army. Apart from Army, Navy, Air Force & Paramilitary Forces Officers belonging to Border Security Force, Coast Guard, GREF etc are also trained by IML, Kamptee in the stream of law.

During this course, the student officers were also trained by assigning practical assignments, analyzing legal documents as well as by showing them training movies on important disciplinary proceedings.

On this occasion the Judge Advocate General addressed the student officers and delivered a talk on “conduct of disciplinary proceedings and exercise of discretion in convening of Court of Inquiry”. The scientific developments should be made to use to its fullest application in the judicial wing too for timely decisions or judgments said Judge Advocate General. In the interactive session with the course officers, he satisfied their curiosity on legal fronts. Col V K Menon, the Course Senior praised the methodology of training by showing such movies to keep the interest of the student officers alive.

The Institute of Military Law had recently prepared training movies on important subjects like `Court of Inquiry’, `Hearing of Charge’ and `Summary Evidence’. The training movies were released by Lieutenant General B S Sachar, (Sena Medal), (Visisht Sewa Medal), Chief of Staff, HQ ARTRAC, Chairman Film Selection Committee and Major General T Parshad, Judge Advocate General, Integrated Head Quarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) on July 31, 2014 at Armed Forces Film and Photo Division (AFFPD), New Delhi. The training movies as per the student officers of the Middle Level Commanders & Staff Officers Law Course, was a force multiplier in understanding the intricacies of disciplinary proceedings.

The prestigious award of Director General of Military Intelligence (DGMI) Running Trophy was conferred at the hands of the Judge Advocate General to Lieutenant Colonel A P Singh who stood first in over all merit and Commandant’s Running Trophy to Colonel Satish Trivedi who stood Second in the order of overall merit. An Inspirational prize was awarded to Colonel Raju Mallick for standing third in the order of overall merit.
