UGC funded works on common room and other amenities still pending

The University Grants Commission in its 5 year plan scheme had given approval for a Common room for lady teachers/staff and girl students in Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur university (RTMNU). Funds amounting to Rupees fifty lakhs were released for the same. However, till date no concrete initiatives have been done in this regard.

A Ladies Common Room, Toilet, Gymnasium has been planned at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Campus, Amravati Road, and work was assigned to the Public Works Department. Rupees three lakhs, ninety thousand was also released for these works from RTMNU’s General Fund.

During the Senate’s meeting last week, a member had raised the issue of the pending work of Common Room which was not yet initiated by the authorities. According to information Out of Rs fifty lakhs, the first installment of Rs 25 lakhs was received on September 23, 2011 and the remaining Rs 25 lakhs was received on March 31, 2012. Three years time has lapsed, yet no progress is seen on this issue.
