Nagpur: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified Nagpur’s Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University (LIT), Maharashtra National Law University (Maha NLU), and Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University among 157 universities nationwide for not appointing Ombudsperson(s) as mandated by UGC regulations.
The updated list, effective from June 1, 2024, urges defaulting universities to promptly appoint Ombudsperson(s) and inform the UGC using specified email addresses.
According to the official website, the defaulting universities may appoint the ombudsperson(s) as per the UGC Regulations and communicate the appointment to the UGC using the email addresses provided.
As per the announcement, a total of 157 universities in the country have been identified as defaulters. The list comprises the names of the universities that have failed to appoint ombudspersons. The list includes 108 public universities, 2 deemed universities, and 47 private universities across the universities.
Previously, the commission had mandated the appointment of ombudspersons in accordance with the UGC regulations of 2023. On January 17, a list of universities that had not complied with these regulations was published. These universities were cautioned about their non-compliance and were asked to appoint ombudspersons.
