
Nagpur: Anaya Prabhune of Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) and Deep Bhandarkar from Nutan Bharat Yuvak Sangh (NBYS) have been selected to represent Maharashtra in the 76th Junior National Basketball Championship scheduled to begin at Pondicherry from May 21. The eight-day nationals are being organised by the Basketball Federation of India.
The 10-day preparatory camp for probable girls selected during the recently held Junior State championship at Nashik was held at the DKM court in Shankar Nagar. The camp was held under the aegis of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) and Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA). The lodging, boarding and travelling expenses of all players were sponsored by the Prakash Rajurkar Memorial Trust.
Apart from the two selected players Anaya and Deep, two Nagpur officials including Dhiraj Kadao as Maharashtra girls coach and Anshita Mohod as manager-cum-physiotherapist have also been selected in the 30-member State contingent for the nationals. The preparatory camp for the boys probable players was held at Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
State basketball association president and NDBA head Sandip Joshi, MSBA vice-president Bhavesh Kuchanwar, former treasurer of MSBA Anup Rajurkar and others wished good luck to all the selected players and officials for the nationals. Players from Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur and Satara attended the national camp at DKM that was held between May 9 and 19. The 12- member girls selected team departed to Pondicherry from Nagpur.
