According to police, the accident occurred around 12.30 pm near the rear gate of Priyadarshini College. The two men were travelling on a Passion Pro motorcycle and carrying a painting ladder at the time of the incident.

Investigators said a tanker moving ahead of the motorcycle stopped on the road to allow a Bharat Petroleum tanker coming from the opposite direction to pass. Moments later, the tanker driver allegedly began reversing the heavy vehicle without noticing the motorcycle behind.

Police said the driver was allegedly wearing headphones and could not hear the desperate warnings shouted by the riders. Despite repeated horn signals and cries for attention, the tanker allegedly continued moving backward and rammed into the motorcycle.

The impact threw both men onto the road before they were run over by the heavy vehicle’s wheels, leaving them critically injured.

Eyewitnesses rushed to help as chaos erupted at the spot. The tanker driver allegedly moved the vehicle forward after the accident and fled from the scene, police said.

The injured victims were immediately taken to AIIMS Hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead.

The tragic deaths triggered anger and grief among locals and relatives, who blamed negligent driving and lack of caution while operating heavy vehicles on busy roads.

MIDC Police registered a case against the absconding tanker driver under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused driver.
