Tripartite safety meeting held in Western Coalfields Limited

In a move to achieve advance safety standards in coal mines, Tripartite safety meeting held in Western Coalfields Limited today in Nagpur. The meeting was presided over by C. J. Joseph, Member Coal India Limited Safety Board. Safety and conservation department of WCL presented the statistics and steps taken to achieve zero accident before the committee members during the meeting. Discussion was held on safety issues like man riding, tele -monitoring, gas, chromatograph, slope stability radar, use of rasin capsules, mechanized roof drilling during the meeting. The circulars issued by DGMS were also discussed and suggestion from Tripartite members were also noted. Chief Guest of the meeting S. Krishnamurthy, Dy. DGMS, Western Zone said that the workers are required to be given extensive training on technical issues. He said that as far as safety standards are concerned the contractual workers also need to follow the same standards as followed by departmental workers. He appreciated efforts of WCL to reduce accident rate over previous years.

While addressing members of Tripartite safety members CMD, WCL, Rajiv R. Mishra expressed his happiness towards the Tripartite safety committee for their concern and said that all tripartite members have to build trust amongst each other so that the zero accident rate may be achieved. To bring transparency in safety issues further Mishra suggested to prepare a mobile app on which all day to day activities and developments regarding safety may be updated. He also advised to educate workers regarding safety & health measures beside giving them formal training. Taking up the suggestion of potable clean water for 49 colonies of WCL Mishra instructed Area General Managers to take immediate action in this regard within next six months. A concept of model mine was also discussed during the meeting.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Director (Personnel), S. M. Chaudhary, Director (Finance), T. N. Jha, Director (Technical) of WCL & D. K. Sahu, Director (Mine Safety -Region II), Prabhat Kumar, Director (Mine Safety -Region I), also expressed their views during the meeting. The meeting was mainly attended by senior officers of Directorate General of Mines Safety, Trade Union Representatives, Area General Managers, Area Safety Officers & Head of Departments of of WCL along with other officials. Welcome address was given by A. K. Singh, General Manager (Safety & Conservation) where as the vote of thanks was proposed by R. K. Mishra, General Manager, Ballarpur Area of WCL.
