Triennial NMC Teachers’ Association election on Sunday

Nagpur: Political atmosphere in Nagpur Municipal Corporation has started turning hot despite prevailing of cold wave conditions in the city. The reason is: The crucial triennial election to NMC Teachers’ Association will take place on Sunday (December 27). Moves and counter moves are afoot to checkmate rivals. Two panels are in fray including ruling Shikshak Aghadi panel and BJP-supported Lok Kranti Panel. Out of 1400 teachers in NMC, 1291 are eligible voters. In the last election held in 2012, 89 percent voting was recorded. This time too, chances of record-breaking voting taking place are being speculated.

The election will be held for 25 posts in the NMC Teachers’ Association. The Shikshak Aghadi had won 23 out of 25 posts in a resounding victory. The BJP, the ruling party in NMC, controls the employees union, cooperative bank and employees’ cooperative bank. The Teachers’ Association is the only organization where the party’s rivals hold the sway. It is for the same reason the top office-bearers and leaders of BJP are leaving no stone unturned to capture the organization.

Every trick and tactic is reportedly being adopted to woo the voters. Nagpur Today is in possession of pamphlets of both the contesting panels. Both the pieces are full of charges and counter charges against each other. Interestingly, the NMC schools are in holiday from Thursday to Sunday for various festivities facilitating the contestants to reach to the doors of voters and woo them.

As usual, both the panels are claiming their victories in the closely watched election. The panels are highlighting account of their respective works in the past three years and banking on the same to emerge victorious in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation Teachers Association, a prominent organization in the civic body.
