Nagpur: A pall of grief descended over the Khadan Number 6 area in Kanhan on Tuesday after a 10-year-old schoolgirl allegedly ended her life at her home, leaving her family and neighbours stunned and heartbroken.
The deceased has been identified as Preeti alias Betu Satyanarayan Tiwari (10), a Class 5 student of Narayana School. According to police, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when she was at home due to a holiday on Mahavir Jayanti.
Family members said Preeti’s uncle, Sanjay Tiwari, was also present in the house at the time. Around 2.30 pm, the young girl reportedly asked a family member, Aarti, for a bottle of cold drink. Aarti told her she would bring it later in the evening. Soon after, Preeti went to play while Aarti got occupied with household chores.
A short while later, the family was struck by tragedy when Preeti was found hanging from a wooden pillar inside a room of the house. The shocked family members immediately rushed her to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Upon receiving information, a team from Kanhan Police Station, led by Police Inspector Vaijayanti Mandavdhare, reached the spot and conducted the panchnama. The body was later sent to the Sub-District Hospital in Kamptee for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
The sudden and heartbreaking death of the young girl has plunged her family into inconsolable grief, while neighbours in the locality remain in shock, struggling to come to terms with the loss of a cheerful child whose life ended far too soon.
