: The Datke Committee, formed to look into grievances of authorised shopkeepers, otta holders and space holders regarding rental charges, held its meeting on Saturday. The committee heard various issues raised by shopkeepers and their unions. Speaking in the meeting, former Mayor Pravin Datke assured the shopkeepers that they would not be put to any loss without violation of provisions of Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act 1949 while fixing the new market charges.

The meeting was also attended by Ruling Party Leader Sandeep Joshi, LBT Department’s Assistant Commissioner Milind Meshram, and other officials.

The meeting follows submission of several memorandums regarding fixation of rental charges from various organisations of authorised vendors in NMC-owned markets. The charges are being recovered from authorised shopkeepers, otta holders and land holders in accordance with the resolution of Standing Committee passed on July 14, 2016, which are very low. There were many proposals to increase the charges despite differences.

After the meeting, the Datke said that a report of the committee would be submitted to the Mayor within 15 days.

The civic body has set up the one-member committee headed by Pravin Datke to go through the memorandums and other subjects. In today’s meeting, the Committee heard the grievances/suggestions of various organisations of authorised shopkeepers, otta holders and land holders regarding rental charges.
