Traders oppose bridge

Nagpur: The local traders on Wednesday held protest demonstration against the proposed bridge to be constructed from Indora Square to Kamal Square. Terming the Rs 52 crore bridge as waste of money, the Kamal Chowk Vyapari Sangh also staged an agitation at Kamal Square.

“There is no need of the bridge at this 120-foot wide road as traffic is generally smooth. Traffic at wide roads in West Nagpur is also hassle free as there no problem of encroachments. The roads of Nagpur Municipal Corporation are replete with encroachments as the civic body has failed to get rid of the problem and to hide their failure, the bridge is being constructed,” the traders protested.

The local traders are a worrying lot over the adverse effects once the bridge construction is over. According to them, at present there is ample place for parking of their vehicles. The proposed bridge will “devour” the parking place and hit the business. Former minister Nitin Raut too has supported the demand of the traders and he himself participated in the protest demonstration.
